Catherine Kornyei

Unlike the other TMS folks, Catherine started sailing in her 50s and prefers cruising to racing. Prior to enjoying Corsair trimarans, her sailing resume included tooling around Marina del Rey in a Sabot, and being scared witless by Bert on the family Thistle.

Catherine lived in the Boston area until after college, (majoring in German, French and a smattering of Spanish), worked as an MIT foreign student advisor, then moved to Geneva, Switzerland for six years. There, kids Jonathan (now a computer geek with a son, Max) and Sarah (now a pediatrician) were born. Returning to the US, they landed in California and she began her business training first in a co-op nursery school (scary similarity to most offices!), then running a small business, and ended up in the UCLA MBA program.

After 8 years in LaLa Land, Catherine and Bert craved a four-season climate and the family returned to Massachusetts. She did stints in banking and at the Harvard Design School, then helped grow Aspect Medical Systems from a 5 person venture capital start-up to a 190 person manufacturing and sales organization, first as business manager then in HR. Large organizations are not Catherine's cup of tea and the growth of TMS gave her another chance to manage a small business, and to dig up her other languages now and then. And she is rapidly learning multihull/sailing language, and more than she could ever imagine about "boat bits".

For Catherine, working at the Multihull Source is great because the work is fun, the people are fun, and the people are having fun!
